Shortly after midnight Wednesday morning Sandy Valley Volunteer Fire Department was called to a mobile home fire on Osage. When the fire department arrived the mobile home was fully engaged and was threatening a nearby building. When the firefighters entered the home they found two people and three pets dead.

Saturday morning was a beautiful crisp morning for the annual Balloon Festival. Public safety exhibits from local utilities, fire departments and police agencies were the anchors of the morning. A few pictures are on the website.

Saturday's funeral for a fallen Clark County fire fighter reduced to six the number of teams competing at the 2006 Mt. Charleston Fire Fest. The event featured competitions in firefighting skills and a number of other demonstrations. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department had several demonstrations including a simulated helicopter rescue, police dog demonstration and the department's mounted patrol. Other vendors joined the Southern Nevada fire departments for the day's competitions, live music and activities at the Mt. Charleston Hotel.

Sandy Valley's volunteer department was the only team to complete the first round of the competition without any penalties. Other teams competing included Mt. Charleston, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, Nellis Air Force Base and the Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Explorers.
